Never Grow up

I'm really excited about a trend I've been seeing all over the runways and the red carpet. This particular hairstyle is so versatile that everyone from the sandbox to the runway can rock it with confidence. Personally, it reminds me of sleepovers with girlfriends and a simpler time. Have you guessed it yet? The trend I'm talking about is: BRAIDS! PLAITS! FISHTAILS! I think they're one of the most timeless things since the little black dress. Wear a braid high on your head, pulled tight and sleek or a loose fishtail gathered at the nape of your neck behind an ear. I love braids for a variety of reasons: they're so easy, they're versatile, and they look better when they're NOT flawless.

I love Blake's hair in this photo:

Blake chose to go with a more youthful hairstyle that I think balances out the sexiness of the backless dress and compliments her fresh-faced make-up. I don't care who you are, or if you like her, Blake has become a fashion icon. Rarely ever seen on the worst-dressed list, but a staple on the best-dressed. Her hair is usually in the true California fashion of beachy, sunkissed waves. I like that she took a risk with a braid set so high on her head and so far down her back. On most, I'd say this look is a little bit too harsh but I think she pulls it off like a champ.

Here's a few other braided looks I've really loved:
How do you all feel about them?

An easy way to recreate the last look:
- Take some extension hair that matches your hair color for a more "everyday" look. (or a wild color for some dimension and contrast!)
- Make sure you get longer hair (14-18 inches) so that you have enough to wrap around your head once it's braided.
- Use a simple 3-strand braid and fasten at the end with a small elastic.
- Use another elastic to secure both ends of the braid together to make a ring.
- Take a leftover extension piece and wrap around the area you fastened both ends together and use a bobby pin to fasten it down flat. ( Do this on the inside of the ring so you dont see the bobby pin!)
- Style your hair straight with little to no volume and put the braid over your head hippie-style with the wrapped area in the back :)
- Go out and enjoy the compliments!

Hello Beautiful People

I'd like to introduce myself to everyone.
My name is Kate.
I think it's important for everyone to have a friend, confidante, or guru in their corner to help them out when it comes down to important issues- ( you know what I'm talking about: how to wear your hair for a night out on the town, whether those shoes really go with that dress, and figuring out what your style really says about you to the people who see you. )
Lucky for you, I'm here. haha.
I plan on posting daily tips, pictures, videos, and links that can help with things we all have to go through to survive in this jungle.
Style would be a lot easier if we had a survival guide, this is true.
Let's face it though, rules were meant to be broken and things are more fun when you find your own way soooo hitch a ride and let the adventure start now.
